Jean-Luc Nancy (1940–2021) and Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe (1940–2007) are among the most important authors of recent French philosophy. Both taught at the University of Strasbourg, where, in close intellectual partnership, they developed an original reinterpretation of the German philosophical tradition. At the Centre de recherches philosophiques sur le politique, which they founded, they pursued the entanglement of aesthetic and political questions in concepts such as community, subjectivity, myth, mimesis and representation.
